Hair is believed to have evolved in therapsids as an adaptation for insulation, but modern mammals have adapted hair for several other purposes. Describe these.

Although hair is still used for insulation in modern mammals, it is also used for:
1) coloration, both for camoflauge (for example, the arctic hare) and for dominance displays
2) protection, from sun, dust, water, etc.
3) specialized forms of hair, such as whiskers (which allow animals to judge the size of spaces) and spines and bristles (for protection).
