How do marine birds rid themselves of excess salt?The birds have salt glands (one above each eye) which excrete high concentrates of salt solution. The glands are placed here because most of the salt that enters the birds' bodies comes from food and water so it makes more sense for the glands to be near the entrance where salt comes into the body. The salt runs out the internal or external nostrils.
