26 Q 7

How might nest temperature affect egg development in turtles? In crocodilians?

In both of these groups, nest temperature determines the gender of the developing baby. The eggs are affected by the temperature at which they are incubated during the middle one-third of embryonic development. This critical period of incubation is known as the thermosensitive period.
In turtles, if the temperature is low, the baby will be male; if it is high, the baby will be female. This is opposite in crocodilians. For them, if the temperature is low, the baby will be female, and if it is high, it will be male.
