Most snakes are oviparous, but some are ovoviviparous or viviparous. What do these terms mean and what would you have to know to be able to assign a particular snake to one of these reproductive modes?
Oviparous is eggs released my female, and the development of the offspring occurs outside the maternal body. ovovivparous is egg development within the maternal body without additional nourishment from the paretn and hatch within teh paretn or immediatly after laying the egg. vivparous is egg development within the female body, with nutritional aid of the maternal parent as in the therian mammals many reptiles and some fish are born this way. You would have to know if the female lays the eggs or if the offspring hatches inside the mother or if it is a live birh in which the offspring is just born and is never insde an egg.
