Give the literal meaning of the name Gymnophiona. What animals are included in this amphibian order, what do they look like, and where do they live?
The order Gymnophiona means naked of the snake. This order contains nearly 160 species of elongate, limbless, burrowing creatures commonly called caecilians. Also, they have small scales in the skin, many vertebrae, long ribs, and small eyes. They occur in tropical forests of South America (their principal home), Africa, and Southeast Asia.
