How do adult Pacific salmon find their way back to their parent stream to spawn?

SALMON ARE GUIDED BY A DISTINCT CHARACTERISTIC ODOR OF THE STREAM

E.D

After migrating downstream as a smolt, a sockeye salmon ranges hundreds of miles over the pacific for nearly 4 years, they grow to about 2-5 kg in weight, and then they return almost unerringly to spawn in the headwaters of its parent stream. After they spawn , they then die.
